The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star
Perspective No Longer As It Was Before Sept. 11
By KERRY DOUGHERTY

Of all the things that have changed in the past 11 days - and Lord knows our world has been turned upside down - the most profound shift may be in our perspective.
A few months ago, smug public figures from Hillary Clinton to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to Jesse Jackson were busy protesting the U.S. Navy's presence in Vieques .
In fact, Kennedy spent 30 days in jail in July for his actions. His wife named their son - who was born while Daddy was in a Puerto Rican pokey - Aidan Caohman Vieques Kennedy.
Wanna bet little Vieques grabs a lawyer and sprints to court the minute he understands what his parents did to him?
The Navy insisted all along that although it regretted the accidental death of one civilian in Vieques in 1999, the live bombing range in Puerto Rico was absolutely essential to military readiness.
To which Sen. Clinton, the Rev. Jackson and Mr. Kennedy snickered.
Who's snickering now?
One death? Very sad.
Bombing resumes in Vieques next week. Not a minute too soon.
